A Memorial of an indented Deed of Conveyance made the 25 Jul 1828 between Robert Stewart of Lurgan, Esq. in the Co of Armagh, Major General in his Majesty’s Service of the one part & Samuel Thompson of Muckamore abbey in the County of Antrim Esq of the other part. Reciting that by Indre of Lease bearing date the 16 day of April 1712 Clotworthy Lord Visct Massereen did demise grant set & to farm let unto Benjamin McDowell then of Rathmore in the Coy of Antrim Linen Draper All that the three parcels of Land therein after ment to wit Scourty acres English Statute measure be it more or less on the north side of the way leading to Antrim towards Carrick fees & on the saith side of certain Lands then in the tenure of John Donnell called Irishtown on the East side of certain Land then in the tenure of Jas McBurney called Burleigh holding on the west side of the Lands of Rottonal as also one other parcel of Land Conty . 20 acres of lettered be it more or less on the East side of certain Lands formerly in the tement of Alex Kirk then his son Geo . Kirk on the South side of the way leading from Antrim aforesd towards Carrickfergus & on the north & west side of the Lands of the Right Honble the call of Donegal to with one parcel of Land on the west side of certain Lands then in the tenure of George Young & on the South side of the High way leading from Antrim to Carrickfergus Cong nine acres of like measure all sit , lying & being in the Parish & County of Antrim aforesd To Hold to said Benj McDowell his heirs & Assigns for three lives therein named & for the lives of such other person as she be added thereto pursuant to the Covt for perpetual renewal therein contained subject to the payment of theraly rent fees duties & fines for renewal in sd Lease Cont & that sd Benj McDowell bequeathed unto his two Daughter Elizth & Anne McDowell equally between them the benefit of his Lease of the Town & Land of Still in the Parish of Antrim ws Town & Lands of Still assd Benj McDowell by his will called them were the same Land & prems so granted to him by sd Visct Massereene by said rented Lease & reciting that said Elis McDowell afterwards married with the Revd William Holmes tly Deed of partition bearing date twentieth Mahon 184 March 1734 made Between sd Wm & Elizth Holmes of the one part and sd Anne McDowell of the other part said Lands & prems so demised by said Lease were divided & made a full partition thereof was thereby agreed that said William Holmes his heirs Exors admors Assigns shall have his morety of said farm called Styles Ganeyhedd pair old Bank Springwell Glyn head park near Lays parks & what remained of Far Lays park after said Anne McDowell part of sd park was taken off on the side next the when Hill it having been agreed between parties that 20 perches were to be taken off the Lower part of Garren head part from the house along by the ditch to the High way to be a road for parties & their Tenants on the prem and Reciting that Clotworthy Masserene by Lease dated 10th March 1730 demised unto one William Robinson all that the 20 acres of Land English measure be the same more or less then late in the posson of John Lattimore with a tenement thereunto belonging on the Saith side of the street of Antrim the sd tenement lying and being above the Church & as the Lands & Tenements were then meared & bounded sit in the Town & Parish of Antrim aforesd To Hold to the said William Robinson his heirs and Assigns for the 3 lives therein named & for such other lives as she be added thereto by virtue of the Court for perpetual renewal therein Contd Subject to the rent fees duties & fines in said Lease Contd & that sd Wm Robinson by conveyance dated 22 September 1732 assigned his Interest in Lands to said William Holmes his Heirs and Assign & Reciting that by Lease dated 29 June 1699 Claborthy Visct Masserene demised unto James Crawford then of the town of Antrim Malsterer All that Dwelling House Garden & Hen lying on the left hand of the way leading from the Church of Antrim to the mill thereof conty yards and one foot & 51 yards & one foot backwards bounded on the north by a tenement then belong to John Bryson & on the South by a Waste Garden or lending said also Eight acres of Land crylish measure be it more or less then formerly in possr of William Young of Hollywell lying on the left hand of the High Road leader for Antrim aforesd to Carrickfergis then bounded on the East by way or Road leading from the sd Highway to Pork Hall , on the South & west by some Lands then possed by John Campbell Inn keeper & on the north of north east by some Lands of Forrest Short all set lying & being in the Parish of Antum To Hold unto the said Jas Crawford his heirs assigns for three lives therein named & for all such other lives as should be added thereto pursuant to the cout for perpetual renewal therein contained subject to the rents fees duties & fines in Lease Contd & that sd Wm Holmes & one William Mcconchey then of the town of Antin merch purchased from St James Crawford the premises granted by sd last recited Lease & division of premises was made between said parties by the House & Garden then in posson of Ruth Brady Widow & the Land then passed by Wm Every feet to the share of sd Wm Holmes & Reciting that there was issue of sd Marriage of sd Wm & Elizth Holmes one daughter only name Isabella Holmes who afterwards married with Robt Stewart the father of said Major General Stewart & sd Robt & Sahela accome possed of Smaulies of Lands & premises & that same were then vested in Major General Robt . Stewart as heir at Law of said Robert & Isabella Stewart said deed Deed Witnessed that said Major General Robert Stewart in Considon of the sum of Two thousand five Hundred pounds to him paid by said Saml Thompson did grant Release and confirm unto said Samuel Thompson in his actual posson then being by virtue of a Bargain & Sale herein recited and to his heirs and Assigns All that & those all that money part or proportion of the Lands and premises therein before mentd to have been granted to Benjamin McDowell by the aforesaid in part recited more of Lease of the 16 day of April 1712 , called and known by the name of Stills as the same was set off & divided from the remainder of the said farms under & by Virtue of the Deed of partition therein before in part ment & rected to wit Marwoods & Gordons parks & also Garron head park old bank Springwell Glynhead park near Lay park & what remains of Far Lays Parks after anne McDowell part of the said Park was taken off on the side next the wheat hill as fully to all intents & purposes as the same had been theretofore held & Enjoyed in Severally by the said Robt Stewart and those whom he derived set lying and act in the Parish & County of Antrim aforesd And also all that and those the 20 acres of Land English measure be the same more or less formerly in the posson of John Lattimore with a tenemen thereunto belonging on the south side of the street of Antrim the sd tenement lying & being above the Church & as the said land & tenement were meared & bounded set lying & being in the Town & Parish of Antrim aforesaid and also all that & those that morely part or proportion of the Lands Tenements & Garden in the mill road in the town of Antrim & near the same held by Lease under Lord Massereene for 19 lives renewable for ever namely the House & Garden formerly in the passon of Ruth Breedy widow & the land formerly possed by Wm Curry to with all buildings & other the appurts To Hold same to the only proper use & behoof of said Saml Thompson his heirs & assigns for the les then in being & all renewal thereof pursuant to the respective Covt for perpetual renewal in recited Lease Cont Subject to the paymt of the see proportions of the rents fees & duties & fines for renewal to the performance of the seal court is recited Lease Con Wm Deed & this ment thereof are resply witnessed by Benjn Stewart of Lurgan in the Coy now Leutenant Colonel in the Honble the East India Company service by George Fitzpatrick of Stafford St in the City of Dublin Sabiner R. A. Memorial of an Indenture bearing date 18 Dec 1852 Between The Right Honble Skiffington Lord Viscount Massereene and John Thompson of Muchamore Abbey Equire, Henderson Adair of Brocklamount Farmer and Isabella Dogherty of Callside widow of the other part Whereby after Reciting among other things that by Indenture of lease bearing date in or about 16 Apr 1712 and made between The Right Honorable Clotworthy Lord Viscount Massereene since deceased of the one part and Benjamin McDowell of Rathmore in the County of Antrim Linen Draper also since deceased of the other part the said Lord Viscount Massariousfor the considerations therein mentioned did demise set and to farm let unto the said Benjamin McDowell All that the three parcels of land therein and hereinafter more particularly described excepting out of said demise as thereinafter is excepted To hold the same with the appurtenances , accept as hereinbefore excepted , at the Benjamin McDowell his heirs and assigns from the time of making said presents for and during the natural life and lives of Thomas McKeige, Francis Irwine, and John Armstrong all therein named and described and the rumors and Senior of them and for and during the natural life and lives of such other person or persons as by virtue of said presents should from me to time successively and for ever be added according to the agreement concerning the same thereinafter mentioned Subject to the yearly Rent of Twelve pounds six shillings of the then Currency of Ireland together with six pence of the like currency in the pound Recovers fees and duties as therein and hereinafter mentioned and also reserving as therein mentioned which Indenture of lease contains a covenant among others for perpetual Renewal in payment of the sum of Twelve pounds six Shillings of the then Comency of Ireland on the fall of each life And further Reciting among other things that all the reversion and Inheritance of and in the said lands tenements hereditaments and promises comprised in and demised by the said hereinbefore in part recited Indenture of lease were then vested in the said Viscount Massarene party thereto and that the estate right title and interest of the therein before named Robert Stewart and Henderson Adam Adair of and to the said part recited Indenture of lease and the lands and premises thereby deceased were then legally vested in the said John Thompson Henderson Adair and Isabella Dogherty , parties thereto and also Reciting that the said John Thompson Henderson Adair and Isabella Dogherty pursuant to the provisions of an Act of Parliament passed in the twelfth and thirteenth years of the reign of Her present Majerly Queen Victone entitled An Act for converting the Renewable Leasehold Corner of land in Ireland who are in fee had applied to and requested the said Lord Viscount Massarose to Execute to them an Estate of Inheritand in fee simple in said lands and premises according to the provisions upon the towns and in the manner as the said Lord Viscount Massar was by said act authong and empower so to do . And the reating that the sum had Discount Massarone in pursuance of the one authority so vested in him by the said act had accord by agreed to create agent to the said John Thompson Alson Adam and Isabella Dogherty of an Estate of an Estate of Inheritance in fee simple in such premises and had proceed to as certain the amount of the annual fee farm rent to be received an payable on therein after mentioned And further Reciting that he has been ascertained under the provisions of the said recited Act to amount to the annual sum of Twelve pounds five shillings and four pence sterling present currency togethe within pence halfpenny in the pound of the like Comency Received fee stones by said ┃ Indenture Witnessed that the said Lord Viscount Massar pursuant to and by put and authority of the provisions of the said hereinbefore recited Act and for the Considertion therein mentioned did grant dove Convey and confirm and the said John Thompson Henderson Adair and Isabella Dogherty in the actual possession then being by of said recited Lease and Renters thereof and to their heirs and assigns , All that and those the three parcels of land there in all or mentioned to wit Twenty Acres English measure be it more or less on the west side of the way leading And in law Janet forgus and on the South side of Certary lands for all the son of John Donell Called Frist Town on the lot of Carton land formerly in the Come of Land M. Burney called Burleigh holding on the west side of the law of Rotton Row and one other power of land containing ten acres of like can be more or less on the last side of Olin law , formerly in the name of Alexander Kirk and on the South side of the way leading from Antrim aforesaid to Cockforge and on the north and south side of the law of the right Honorable the Margues of Donegal together with one parcel of land on the west side of certain lands formerly in the towne of George Young and on the south side of the high way leading from Antin to Carrickfergus containing Nine acres of like nature all situate lying and being in the Parish and County of Antin aforesaid together with all Edifices Orchards Gardens ways profits and hereditaments whatsoever therein or to any part thereof belonging or in any wise appertaining Excepting and saving out of said de unto the said Lord Viscount and those to whom the said fee farm rent and reversion of the premises after the death of the said Lord Viscount should appertain all timber lumber was and wood fit for timber then or at any time thereafter during said same to be standing & growing the said lands or any part thereof with full and free liberty to and for the said Lord Massarine and those to whom the said fee farm rent should as aforesaid appertain by and then servants agents and workmen to Cross to fall cut down lake and any away the same without the let or denial of the said John Thompson Henderson Adair and Isabella Dogherty his heirs and assigns I hold the same with the appurtenances Except as thereafter is accepted unto and to the use of the said John Thompson Henderson Adair and Isabella Dogherty the heirs and assigns for ever as tenants in common and not as joint tenants subject to the yearly fee farm rent or sum of Twelve pounds five shillings and five pence sterling present currency together with five pence halfpenny stating in the pound of the like Coney Receivers fees payable as therein mentioned and also subject to the of the duties thereinafter mentioned at a losery four horses and four men to follow the said horses with Corts care and other furniture for one day in harvest or otherwise four Single man for one day in honest or otherwise as aforesaid as the said Lord Viscount his heirs or assigns should appoint six good fat heirs at Shovelide six good al ducks at Lannas and six doe ( at Capen at Christmas of in lien of each days work for a man and hose eleven pence sterling of each days work five pence halfpenny Sterling of each heir five pence half penny stealing of each duck five pence halfpening Sterling and of each Capon five pence halfpenny stating at the election and choice of the said Lord Viscount his heirs and assigns subject to the covenant claus andagreements therein therein reserved and contained which said Indenture as to the execution they by the said Lord Viscount Massarie is witnessed by Benjamin Humprey of lock Street in the City of Duldin Schild and this Mendial as to the perfection thereof by the son Lord Viscount Massarience is witnessed by the said Benjamin Humpey and by Josias D. Deed dated Dec 2, 1731 regarding the marriage settlement between WILLIAM Holmes of Antrim, clerk, Elizabeth McDowell of Rathmore, spinstress and Alexander Brown of Dunagor [Donegor]. Elizabeth McDowell transfers to Brown her total moiety being half part of lands of Style Rathmore and BallyRobert situate in Co. Antrim which were devised to her by the last will of her father, Benjamin McDowell. Memorial of Deed of lease and release date Sep 1, 1732 whereby William Robinson of Shanes Castle, Co Antrim, butler to John O’Neil, Esq. let to the Rev. Mr. WILLIAM Holmes of City and Co Antrim 20 acres late in the possession of John Latimore. Witnessed by William McConchy of Antrim, merchant and Joseph Willson of the same, Gent. Rev. WILLIAM Holmes, NATHANIEL Holmes and Joseph Wilson all of the County and Parish of Antrim, gentleman, were witnesses to deed dated Nov 4, 1732 between Henry Shaw of Ballytweedy, parish Killead, co Antrim, gentleman and William McConchey of Antrim, co Antrim, merchant for a parcel of land called Bush Farm and part of the “16 towns” of antrim. Memorial of deed dated 20 Mar 1735 whereby Mary Ramsey, widow, David Ramsey and Thomas Ramsey sons of said Mary Ramsey by John Ramsey her late husband, Charles McCleland of Shane’s Castle and Jane McCleland als Ramsey his wife, John Graham of Magherafelt and Mary Graham als Ramsey his wife, which said Jane McCleland and Mary Graham are daughters of Mary Ramsey by John Ramsey; transfer land in Antrim currently occupied by Alexander Ferguson, George Duffield and William McKeigh, for the lives of Francis Shaen, William Heartson and John Weir. Memoral of a Deed Poll dated 2 Apr 1735 made by Evan Wilkinson of Antrim Weaver wherein is Recited that John Wilson by his Last Will and Testament in writing duly perfected Did Devise to Israel Wilkinson ( Father of the said Evan , the houses Tennaments and Lands thereunto belonging which the said Wilson Enjoyed by Virtue of Severall Leases for Livesof Renewable for ever under the Lord Masserene and Whereas by the Death of the said – ┃ Israel the said houses Tennaments & Lands Descended to the said Evan Wilkinson party ┃ to these presents ( as the only son and heir of the said Israel and Whereas two of the Lives mentioned in the said Leases Propped a considerable time ago , and by ye omission of Tendering the Fines and arrears of Rent to the Lord Massercene within ye time limitted by the said Leases the Right of Renewall was lost and forfeited and whereas there having been a very considerable Arrear of Rent due out of the said premises Clotworthy Lord Vise Massereene brought Gectments pursuant to the Statute and Recoverd ye possession of the said Lands and premisses and whereas the sd Lord Massereene was put into possion of the said Lands and premisses by Severall Writts ( or a Writt Habere Facias possession sued forth on the judgment obtained in Ejectment as aforesaid and the arrears of rent not being paid or tender ‘d to the said Lord Massercene within the time limited by Law , It is the said Lord Massereenes Estates in the said premisses became absolute and whereas the said Lord Mabereenes Did by Deed of Lease duly Executed bearing Date the first day of September one thousand Seven hundred and thirty three for the Considerations therein mentioned Demise part of the said premisses Containing Eighty one acres three Roods andfourteen perches English measure ( be the same more or less ( to Lewis Reford his heirs and ┃ assigns for three Lives Renewable forever and whereas Livery and seisin of the saidpremisses was duly given pursuant to the said Deed of Lease as by Indorsement thereon ┃ appears to which Deed of Lease as also to the said Indorsement thereon the said Evan Wilkinson is a subscribing Witness and whereas by one other Deed of Lease duly perfected bearing Date the said first day of September one thousand seven hundred & thirty . the three the said Lord Masserene Demise unto the said Lewis reford his heirs and assigns for three Lives Renewable for ever all that plott of Ground whereon the Quaker meeting house in Antrim was then erected and Severall other houses Tenements and pieces of Ground all which were part of the premises aforesaid Devised by the said John Wilson to the said Israel Wilkinson to which last mentioned Deed of Lease as also to the Indorsment and giving Livery and Sewin thereon the said Evan Wilkinson is a subscribing Witness ; By which Deed poll whereof this writing is a memorial the said loan Wilkinson for the Consideration ┃ therein mentioned Did give Grant Alien Release and Confirm unto the said Lewis Reford in his Actuall ┃ possession now being and to his heirs forever all that parcell of Land formerly in possession of Robert Goe Containing by Estimacon fourty acres two Roods & nine perches be the same more or less that parcell of Land formerly in possession of Thomas Bell Containing by Estimation Eighteen acres , & ┃ Twenty one perches ( be the same more or less , that parcell of Land called Tinglass banks Containing by Estimation Twenty three acres & Twenty four perches be the same more or less as also all that ┃ plott of Ground where the Quaker meeting house is erected in Antrim with two houses now or late in Tennancy of Samuell Duffield & Elinor Richey and a house now & Late in Tenances of John Campbell  and also a piece of Ground called the Quakers Grave yard all which I hereby Granted and released ┃ premisses are situate in the County of Antrim & were formerly in the occupation of the said Ivan  Wilkinson party to these presents To have and to hold the said hereby Granted & released premisses to him the said Lewis Reed his heirs and assigns forever pursuant to the True – Intent and meaning of the above mentioned Deeds of Lease to him thereof made to the only use and behoof of him the said Lewis Reford his heirs and assigns forever , Which said Deed is witnessed by Nath Holmes Gent and Jonathan Hammond Schoolmaster both of ye Town and County of Antrim aforesaid and this memorial is witnessed by the said Nath Holmes and Jonathan Hammond Lew Reford Seal , this memorial was duly Signed and sealed by the above named Lewis Reford in the presence of us Nath Holmes is Jonathan Hammond The above named Nath Holmes Came …(RD 79/241/55608)

Reciting lease dated 8 Feb 1722 whereby Clotworthy Lord Massereene let to Thomas Maxwell of Antrim all the houses on the south side of the street on Antrim then lately in the possession of Hugh and James McMorran bound on the east by tenement formerly in the possession of Hugh Bell and then Samuel Wilkinson, on the west by the dwelling house of Henry Weir, apothecary, for the lives of Clotworthy Upton, Esq., the said Thomas Maxwell and his wife, Elizabeth Maxwell in which deed there is a clause whereby James Boyd, his heirs and assigns could add a life upon death for a fee, and reciting deed dated 25 Aug 1736 (see RD 86/111/59528) whereby the said Thomas Maxwell confirmed releases of property to James Boyd of Antrim, linen draper at which time the lives of Sarah Abernethy and Elizabeth Boyd replaced the other lives which persons were dead, and also reciting lease dated 28 & 29 Dec 1748 whereby the said James Boyd did grant to Sarah Abernethy of Dublin, widow, the said Sarah Abrnethy now leases the properties to NATHANIEL Holmes for the lives of the said Thomas Maxwell, Sarah Abernethy and Elizabeth Boyd. Will dated 20 Feb 1796 reg 19 May 1797 A memorial of the last will and testament of William Holmes of  the town and Co of Antrim, merchant do make my last will and testament in manner following. I leave to my sisters Mary and Sarah £50 each; to my nephew the son [not named] of my late brother John the sum of £50; and to such children of my late sister Margaret as may be living at the time of my decease £50 to be equally divided amongst them share and share alike; I leave and devise to Robert Rainey nephew to my late wife £56.17.6 to be allowed to my son Hugh of what balance is due me by them. I leave to the Rev Alexander Montgomery  £2.5.6 yearly so long as he be dissenting min. in the Millrow Congregation in Antrim. I leave and devise to my to servants David McMurdy and Jane McQuoan £4.11.0 each year during their respective lives, said three annuities to be fixed half yearly on the first day of May and November in every year… I leave and devise to my son Hugh all the balance for principal and interest now due me by Rainey and Holmes only the above legacy to Robert Rainey and I further leave to my son Hugh  £113.15.0 and also the tenement where I live with the lease thereof to him and his lawful issue. I leave and devise to my son Robert £113.15.0 and I leave the and devise all the rest residue and remainder of whatever fortune I shall die possessed of to my son Robert Robert and my daughter Hannah and their heirs…;  My son Robert Holmes of Belfast, merchant and son in law James Watt of Springvale, Linen draper, both in the Co Antrim to be executors. Will of McCORMICK, SAMUEL, town and county of Antrim, doctor of physick. ‘this 1790’. Full li/4 p. 12 Sept. 1799. To my wife Eleanor McCormick, for life, all the rents, issues and profits of my two freeholds called Greystone with the tenements in Antrim, and Rigsland which I hold under the Earl of Masareene for leases for lives, and then to my nephew Saml. McCormick, Antrim, surgeon and apothecary, and his heirs, and in default to Eleanor Young, otherwise Craig, niece to my said wife, and her heirs. My property called Ringsland then to be sold and the proceeds to be divided between my brothers James McCormack and Jno. McCormack and my sister Mary Erwin, a third each, and to their children. The residue to my wife. Exors. my said wife Eleanor McCormick, Mr John Rankin of Gillmore and of Boghead, Co. Antrim. Witnesses: Robt. Young, the elder, town and county of Antrim, WILLIAM. Antrim, baker the house or tenement in Bow Lane, Antrim, Co Antrim formerly called and known as Whitby’s Tenament formerly in the possession of John Dulles and late in the possession of Peter Curry and now in the possession of William Morgan from Nov 1, 1805 for the lives of King George, Frederick, Duke of York, and James Smith, Esq. per terms of original lease from Martha Smith to Peter Henry.
